DETAILED ITINERARY

4 DAYS / 3 NIGHTS

Bengaluru – Bandipur – Mysore – Hampi – Bengaluru (1074 Kms)

Day 1/Sunday (Bengaluru to Bandipur)

Arrive at Yeshwantpur Railway Station at around 08:30 AM. Proceed on your sojourn at 0930 Hrs after welcome and registration. Lunch shall be served onboard. Proceed for a game drive at Bandipur National Park from Nanjangud Town, approx. 50 km from Bandipur. Return to the train for dinner.

Day 2/Monday (Mysore)

After breakfast onboard, proceed to visit the Mysore Palace. Return to the train for lunch. Visit Srirangapatnam as an Optional excursion. Proceed for dinner at a city hotel with cultural activities. Return to the train as it proceeds to Hampi.

Day 3/Tuesday (Hampi)

After breakfast onboard, proceed to visit the capital of Vijayanagara kingdom – Hampi, a UNESCO World Heritage site, the ruins at Hampi tell a tale of opulence and grandeur of the kingdom. Return to the train for lunch. Visit Anegundi as an Optional excursion in the afternoon. Enjoy an Indian Evening onboard followed by dinner.

Day 4/Wednesday (Bengaluru)

Breakfast shall be served onboard as the train arrives into Yeshwantpur Railway Station at around 1100 Hrs.

Wednesday Day 01: Delhi

The guests are given a traditional welcome at the Safdarjung Railway Station at 4 PM where they proceed with the check-in formalities. At 6.30 PM the vibrantly decorated Palace on Wheels begins its eight-day odyssey cutting across the scenic landscapes and rich heritage of India with its first stop at Jaipur. A sumptuous dinner is served on board.

Thursday Day 02: Jaipur

The guests enjoy a delectable breakfast aboard The Palace on Wheels as it royally marches into the pink city. After a grand welcome by shenai and garlands, the guests depart by coach to experience the treasure trove of artefacts at the Albert Hall Museum followed by a host of architectural marvels – Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar, City Palace etc. A pleasant lunch is served around 1.30 PM at Raj Palace followed by a visit to the Amber Fort – adorned with red sandstone and marbles standing testimony to its perennial charm. At 3PM the guests can shop in the buzzing atmosphere of the local markets that sell a huge array of items including handicrafts, sweets and savouries pertaining to the local culture. Around 8PM the travellers return back to the train for dinner on board. The odyssey continues to Sawai Madhopur from Durgapura Railway Station in Jaipur at 8PM.

Friday Day 03: Sawai Madhopur – Chittorgarh

The guests disembark for a safari in the Ranthambore National Park located in the heart of the Aravalli and Vindhya Range. Amidst picturesque locales, the sanctuary offers a fine view of the animals, in particular the Bengal tigers which could be seen in their natural habitat. The entourage leaves for Chittorgarh at 10.20 AM with breakfast served on board. During the course of the journey, guests can have a leisure time at the bar, enjoy a few drinks and converse with fellow passengers over their inherent love for travel. The Palace on Wheels reaches Chittorgarh at 3 PM and on arrival the guests explore the forts and castles of a bygone era that echoes the heroism and pride of the Rajput clan. The guests go for a quick exploration of the city, revelling in the various sightings the city has to offer and return to the fort for Tea and a fun-filled light and sound programme. Dinner is served on board the train.

Saturday Day 04: Udaipur

The entourage leaves for Udaipur at 2AM in the morning and breakfast at 7.30AM. The guests are taken for a tour around the city’s historical garden – Saheliyon Ki Bari regarded as the most popular tourist space replete with kiosks, a lotus pool and marble elephants followed by a visit to the city palace and the crystal gallery that provide a breath-taking view of its cultural significance. A sumptuous lunch awaits the guests at the Fateh Prakash Hotel after which they proceed to a boat ride to the resplendent Jagmandir Palace for tea. The Palace on Wheels set on its journey cutting across Rajasthan and moving towards its north western frontier of Jaisalmer at 4 PM.

Sunday Day 05: Jaisalmer

The last princely bastion of Rajasthan, tucked deep in the Thar Desert, The Palace on Wheels reaches the quaint city of Jaisalmer around 9.00 AM. The guests embark on a sightseeing tour to the serene spot of Gadsasir Sagar Lake, stunning forts and the innumerable havelis – including the eponymous Patwon ki Haveli and the Nathmal ji ki Haveli – that project the strong valour of its rulers and an aesthetic representation of its times. The guests get to enjoy refreshing lunch on board and embark for camel rides and tea on the sam sand. At 11.45 PM the prestigious Palace on Wheels leaves Jaisalmer and heads towards Jodhpur.

Monday Day 06: Jodhpur

The Palace on Wheels journeys into the Blue City of Jodhpur at 7 AM and breakfast is served at 07.30AM. Upon reaching, the guests explore the architectural and magnificent marvel of Mehrangarh Fort and the surrounding cenotaph of Jaswanth Thada. Celebrate a glimpse of the history at the Umaid Bhavan Museum and cap it all off by shopping in the nearby local markets. A grand lunch is served at the royal Ajit Bhawan Palace. The train sets off for Bharatpur soon after.

Tuesday Day 07: Bharatpur – Agra

The train arrives in the early hours of the morning for a recreational visit to the Keola Deo National Park, the erstwhile duck hunting reserve of the Maharajas for bird-watching and photography. The guest are served breakfast on board the train and depart for the onward journey to Agra at 9AM. On arrival at Agra Railway Station around 11 AM, the guests visit the historic Agra fort. At 3 PM, the journey moves to the famed marvel of Mughals – Taj Mahal. A delightful lunch is served at Hotel Trident at 1.30PM. This is followed by shopping and exploration of the local markets. The Palace on Wheels begins its journey towards Delhi at 8.45 PM.

Wednesday Day 08: Delhi

The incredible travel aboard the Palace on Wheels reaches its finale on arrival at the Safdarjung Railway Station at 2.30 AM. The guests are served breakfast at 6.00 AM after which the staff bid a fond farewell to the travellers.

Pride of Karnataka

Day 1/Sunday (Bengaluru to Bandipur)

Guests arrive at Yeshvantpur Railway Station at around 0845 hrs. Tour Briefing on-board. Lunch on-board. De-board at Nanjangud Town at 1400 hrs. 50 km by road to Bandipur. Evening Safari at Bandipur from 1630 to 1830 hrs. Return to train for dinner. Train proceeds to Mysore and stationed overnight at Mysore.

Day 2/Monday (Mysore)

Breakfast on-board. Visit Mysore Palace. Return to train for lunch. Optional visit to Srirangapatnam. Dinner on-board.

Day 3/Tuesday (Halebidu and Chikamgaluru)

Breakfast on-board as train arrives at Banavar Rly Station. Visit Halebidu from Banavar Rly Station at 0800 hrs. Return to train by 1130 hrs. Train proceeds to Chikamagalur. Lunch on-board. De-board at 1500 hrs to visit plantations followed by coffee tasting and dinner. Return to train.

Day 4/Wednesday (Hampi)

After early breakfast on-board, proceed to visit Hampi ruins. Lunch on-board. Indian Evening on-board.

Day 05/Thursday (Badami)

After breakfast on-board, optional visit to Badami Caves. (200 steps to climb). Lunch on-board. 1415 hrs de-board to visit Pattadakal and Aihole. Dinner on-board.

Day 06/Friday (Goa)

On-board breakfast. Proceed to visit Churches of North Goa and Museum. Lunch on-board. De-board for a Bollywood Evening and dinner at a resort/hotel. Return to the train by 2145 hrs. Train proceeds to Yeshwantpur.

Day 07/Saturday (Bengaluru)

Breakfast on-board. Trip ends.

Enjoy a relaxed breakfast onboard as the train arrives into Chengalpattu Railway Station. Proceed to visit the UNESCO World Heritage site – Shore Temple followed by lunch at an exclusive venue. Return to the train for dinner as the train proceeds to Thanjavur.

Day 4/Wednesday (Thanjavur and Chettinad)

Proceed to visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site – Brihadeshvara Temple. Lunch shall be served onboard as the train proceeds to Chettinad. In the evening proceed to visit the Athnagudi tile factory followed by visit to Chettinadu mansions. Dinner shall be served onboard as the train proceeds to Cochin.

Day 5/Thursday (Cochin)

After onboard breakfast, proceed to visit the Matancherry Palace in Fort Cochin area after which witness some of the best kept dance forms of Kerala at an exclusive venue. Return to the train for lunch. Optional excursion to Chinese Fishing Nets and St. Francis Church. Enjoy an India evening onboard followed by dinner as it proceeds to Kumarakom.

Day 6/Friday (Kumarakom)

After onboard breakfast proceed for a cruise on the backwaters followed by lunch at an exclusive venue. Return to the train as it proceeds to Bengaluru. Dinner shall be served onboard.

Day 7/Saturday (Bengaluru)

Breakfast shall be served onboard as the train arrives in Bengaluru.

Day 01

Welcome aboard the Maharajas’ Express.

This morning, assemble at Delhi Safdarjung station at approximately 0730 hours and complete your registration and check in formalities, as you enjoy sipping into your welcome drink enjoying the live instrumental music. The train shall proceed to Jaipur at 0830 hrs.

Enjoy a leisurely lunch onboard. Join us for a Tour Brief and meet your facilitators during this exciting journey.

Deboard at around 1500 hrs to visit the City Palace galleries including the Textile Museum, Arms Museum and Arts Museum.  Admire the famous Sterling Silver Vessels entered in the Guinness Book of World Records. The vessels are said to be made from 14000 silver coins without any joint and were used by Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh II to carry the water of the Ganges to drink on his trip to England in 1901 to attend King Edward VII’s coronation.

After your visit to the City Palace, proceed for an exclusive dinner at the Rambagh Palace Hotel. The Palace built in 1835 AD was the residence of the Maharaja of Jaipur from 1925 to 1957, when it was converted into a luxury hotel. The palace retains its royal splendour, hand-carved marble latticework, and elaborate gardens.

Afterwards return to the station by 2030 hours as Maharajas’ Express.

Monday- Jaipur

Day 02  

After onboard breakfast deboard at around 08:30 hrs to visit the Amber Fort. The Amber Fort, set in picturesque and rugged hills is a fascinating blend of Hindu and Mughal architecture. Constructed by Raja Man Singh I in 1592 and completed by Mirja Raja Jai Singh, the fort was made in red sand stone and white marble. The rugged forbidding exterior belies an inner paradise with a beautiful fusion of art and architecture. Amber is the classic and romantic fort-palace with a magnificent aura.

A short jeep ride takes you up to the fort where you will enjoy a tour of the royal apartments, with striking views of the gorge. Step back into the Mughal era as you enter the Chamber of Mirrors (Sheesh Mahal), and the Hall of Victory. Return to the train for lunch or you may choose from a range of optional activities like Spa facilities at a hotel or explore the city with your private car and guide.

Tuesday- Ranthambore – Fatehpur Sikri

Day 03  

Upon arrival into Sawai Madhopur, early in the morning, get ready for a safari to the Ranthambore National Park. Originally the private hunting ground of the Maharajas, Ranthambore was declared a National Park in 1973. It is famous for its open sightings of tigers, sambar, chital, nilgai, chinkara, wild boar, sloth bear, hyena, jackal and leopard. Wildlife cannot be compared to that of Africa and you are indeed fortunate if you spot the elusive tiger or the shy leopard.

Proceed for an early morning exciting game drive. The safari is carried out in open vehicles and the ride is quite bumpy and dusty. One must carry adequate warm clothes for winter months.

Return to the train. Enjoy breakfast as you continue your journey to the fabled deserted Mughal city of Fatehpur Sikri. Admire the changing landscape as you savour lunch.

On arrival at the quaint station of Fatehpur Sikri, disembark at 1530 hours and proceed on a tour of the fascinating sights comprising of imposing gateways, Halls of Private and Public audience, beautifully sculptured palaces with unique water bodies, reflecting a perfect blend of Hindu and Muslim architectural styles. This deserted red sandstone city was built by the great Mughal Emperor Akbar as his capital in the late 16th century. It is now a famous UNESCO World Heritage Site. Return to the train. Enjoy an “Indian Evening” onboard followed by dinner.

Wednesday- Agra

Day 04   

Early morning arrive into Agra – the jewel of India, home to one of the world’s great architectural wonders – the Taj Mahal. With its spectacular monumental masterpieces and picturesque natural setting, Agra is a legendary city glorified by time. Early morning, disembark and proceed to the world famous Taj Mahal. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, which was built by Shah Jahan as a mausoleum for his favourite queen Mumtaz. This incomparable marvel is constructed entirely out of white marble and is an architectural masterpiece with beautiful inlay work and marble screens. Approximately 20,000 of India’s most revered craftsmen were recruited to give shape to this poetry in marble.

Later enjoy a Champagne breakfast gazing at the Taj Mahal, from atop the Taj Khema.

Following breakfast, return to the train for lunch. Afternoon is at leisure or you may choose optional activities – Spa at a hotel or visit to Agra Fort. Return to the train for dinner as the train proceeds to Orchha.

Thursday- Orchha –  Khajuraho

Day 05  

After early breakfast, disembark at Jhansi Railway Station at 07:15 hrs to visit the quaint village of Orchha known for its rustic lifestyle. Visit the Orchha Fort, built over several years in the 1500s by the Bundela rulers overlooking the Betwa river. A short Tuk Tuk ride will take you to experience village life in the hinterland. Return to the train.

Enjoy a relaxed lunch onboard as the train continues its journey through some of the most dramatic and picturesque environs towards Khajuraho.

Khajuraho is renowned for its architecture and exquisite sculptures. Built between 950 and 1050 AD in a truly inspired burst of creativity, the temples are superb examples of Indo-Aryan architecture. The highly sensual engravings depict the whole range of human emotions and relationships.

On arrival proceed on a tour of the magnificent temples of Khajuraho, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore the Western group which constitutes some of the finest examples of Chandela art at its peak including the Kandariya Mahadev Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.

In the evening you may enjoy Optional Activities – Dances of India Show at Kandariya Shilpgram or you may enjoy Spa facilities at a Hotel or Sound and Light Show at the temple complex.

Friday- Varanasi        

Day 06

Today as you enjoy breakfast onboard, your journey continues through rich agricultural fields, arriving into the holy city of Varanasi.

One of the oldest living cities in the world, Varanasi (also known as Kashi or Benaras) has a spiritual legacy of over 3000 years. A place of pilgrimage, this holy city is set on the banks of the sacred river Ganges. Varanasi epitomizes the chaos and colour of India. Lively bazaars, exquisite and bright silks, festivals, temples, mosques and palaces – all can be found here.

Following disembarkation, proceed for lunch at Hotel Taj Gateway. After lunch, visit the ancient ruins of Sarnath, where Buddha delivered his first sermon expounding the principles of Buddhism. Proceed for a boat cruise on the Ganges, en-route visit a Silk Weaving Centre, where you may even shop for some world famous Banarasi silk saris and brocades.

Enjoy a scenic cruise on the river Ganges and witness a magical evening aarti at the ghats of the holy Ganges. Proceed for dinner at Brij Rama Palace situated on the banks of the holy river. The Brijrama Palace, built in the year 1812 is accessible only by boat. Enjoy classical Indian Dance performance – Kathak followed by an exclusive vegetarian dinner.

Rejoin the train as it proceeds to Delhi.

Saturday- Delhi

Day 07

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast and lunch onboard as the train arrives into Delhi.

Day 02- Agra – Ranthambore

Monday    

Early this morning, disembark to visit the exquisite Agra Fort. Later, enjoy relaxed breakfast on board as you travel to your next destination Ranthambore. Lunch shall be served onboard.

Day 04

Wednesday- Bikaner    

Enjoy your journey through the countryside with breakfast on board.

At around 1000 hours, arrive into the desert citadel of Bikaner.  You may choose to explore the city on an Optional City Tour.

After your optional tours, return to the train for lunch.

Following lunch, disembark and proceed to the Junagarh Fort, an unassailable fortress built in 1593 AD by Raja Rai Singh. While the fort is a formidable structure encircled by a moat, its real beauty lies inside. Be overwhelmed by the Diwan-i-Khas, Phool Mahal (Flower Palace), Hawa Mahal, Badal Mahal and Anup Mahal.

Later experience the royal pageantry as a convoy of camel carts accompanied by musicians takes you for a Sundowner on the Sand Dunes. Enjoy cocktails, savour traditional mouth watering barbecue delicacies as you enjoy traditional folk arts like the Langaas and Kalbeliyas.

Return to the comforts of your train by 2030 hours and embark on your onward journey to Jodhpur.

Day 05

Thursday- Jodhpur

Return to the train for lunch on-board.

After lunch visit the magnificent Mehrangarh Fort. Admire the intricate latticed windows, elaborately carved panels and elegantly carved arches followed by a walking tour of the Old Clock Tower Market.  As you reach the Market on Tuk Tuks, get a glimpse of the daily lifestyle of the local residents, passing some of the old houses and havelis.

Enjoy an exclusive Cocktail evening with a wide array of sumptuous Marwar Culinary delights served at an exclusive venue.

Return to the train and continue your journey to picturesque Udaipur.

Day 06

Friday- Udaipur

This morning you will wake up in the picturesque region of Mewar, one of the most popular and royal states of the Rajputana. Admire the magnificent landscape of the Aravali Hills over a leisurely breakfast as you arrive into Udaipur – the City of Lakes.

Disembark the train at 1000 hours as you begin your visit with a boat ride on Lake Pichola. Following the boat ride, visit the City Palace, the largest palace complex in Rajasthan, with its scalloped arches, fretted balconies, and cupolas. Visit Mor Chowk and see its lavish mosaics of peacocks; Moti Mahal with beautiful mirror work; Chini Mahal covered in ornamental tiles and the spectacular Zenana Mahal. Visit The Crystal Gallery and the Darbar Hall with an audio guide. Feel like a king as you experience the hospitality at the Satkar Hall of Fateh Prakash Palace reminiscent of the ancient Mewar glory. Feast your taste buds over a spread of Indian cuisine.

Following lunch return to the train for a relaxed afternoon on board as train proceeds for Mumbai. Enjoy an ‘Indian Evening’ on board, raising a toast to a memorable experience.

Day 07

Saturday- Disembark in Mumbai

Enjoy relaxed morning on board, you will disembark at around 1545 hours at Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj  Terminus(CSMT) in the financial capital city of Mumbai. Bid farewell to the Maharajas’ Express as your ‘The Indian Splendour’ journey comes to an end. The royal journey is over, but the memory of which, will live on forever!

Day 01

Sunday- Board the Maharajas’ Express in Delhi – onto Agra

Welcome aboard the Maharajas’ Express.

This morning, assemble at Delhi Safdarjung station at approximately 0815 hours and complete your registration and check in formalities, as you enjoy welcome and live instrumental music.

The Maharajas’ Express departs Delhi at 0915 hours for Agra.

Enjoy brunch on board as you arrive into Agra. Join us for a session on the train for a Tour Brief and meet your facilitators during this exciting journey. As you reach the ‘City of Mughal Splendour’, visit the world famous Taj Mahal (one of the Seven Wonders of the World), built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan as the mausoleum for his favourite queen Mumtaz Mahal. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this incomparable marvel is constructed entirely out of white marble and is an architectural masterpiece with beautiful inlay work and marble screens.

Return back to the Maharajas’ Express. You may choose optional activities such as spa at a five star hotel or Mohabbat the Taj show or or explore the city in your private car with guide.

Day 02- Agra – Ranthambore

Monday    

Early this morning, disembark to visit the exquisite Agra Fort. Later, enjoy relaxed breakfast on board as you travel to your next destination Ranthambore. Lunch shall be served onboard.

Arrive into Ranthambore and proceed for an exciting game drive in the Ranthambore National Park. Originally the private hunting ground of the Maharajas of Jaipur, Ranthambore was declared a National Park in 1973. The Park is famous for its open sightings of tigers, sambar, chital, nilgai, chinkara, wild boar, sloth bear, hyena, jackal and leopard. The safari cannot be compared to that of Africa and you are indeed fortunate if you spot the elusive tiger or the shy leopard.

The safari is carried out in open vehicles and the ride is quite bumpy and dusty. You must carry adequate warm clothes for winter months.

Return to the Maharajas’ Express. Dinner onboard as the Maharajas’ Express proceeds for Jaipur.

Day- 03

Tuesday- Jaipur

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast on board.

Following disembarkation and a grand traditional welcome, begin your exciting tour of the pink city with a visit to Amber Fort at 0830 hrs. The Amber Fort, set in picturesque and rugged hills is a fascinating blend of Hindu and Mughal architecture. Constructed by Raja Man Singh I in 1592 and completed by Mirja Raja Jai Singh, the fort was made in red sand stone and white marble. The rugged forbidding exterior belies an inner paradise with a beautiful fusion of art and architecture. Amber is the classic and romantic fort-palace with a magnificent aura.

A short jeep ride takes you up to the fort where you will enjoy a tour of the royal apartments, with striking views of the gorge. Step back into the Mughal era as you enter the Chamber of Mirrors (Sheesh Mahal), and the Hall of Victory. Return back to the train for a leisurely lunch on board.

You may also choose to participate in the optional activities such as Spa facilities at a five star hotel or visit the City Palace and Jantar Mantar (The Observatory) or explore the city in your private car with guide.

Proceed for an exclusive dinner at the Rambagh Palace Hotel. The Palace built in 1835 AD was the residence of the Maharaja of Jaipur from 1925 to 1957, when it was converted into a luxury hotel. The palace retains its royal splendour, hand-carved marble latticework, and elaborate gardens.

Afterwards return to the station by 2100 hours as Maharajas’ Express proceeds for Delhi.

Wednesday- Delhi   

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast onboard as the train arrives into Delhi.
